Escursioni Sharm connects you with verified diving centres for intro diving in Sharm El Sheikh: your first Red Sea dive with a dedicated instructor, no certification needed, booking with no prepayment and paying on site. Also called a "try dive" or "discover scuba", it is the simplest way to find out whether the underwater world is for you.
How the try dive works
No experience required: the programme lasts half a day and goes like this:
- On-land briefing (20-30 minutes): equipment, underwater hand signals, breathing and the few essential rules.
- Getting comfortable in shallow water: your first breaths underwater in safety, just a few metres down.
- Guided dive of 20-40 minutes down to 5-8 metres on the reef, with the instructor accompanying you one-to-one or in pairs.
The dive takes place from shore (many of Sharm's reefs start right from the beach) or from a boat, often combined with a snorkelling trip — the ideal solution if you travel with someone who does not want to dive.
How much an intro dive costs
| Item | Details |
|---|---|
| Price | €25-53 at local diving centres (indicative) |
| Same experience via OTA | $40-60 |
| Duration | Half day |
| Included | Instructor, full equipment, briefing, 1 dive |
Indicative prices verified in October 2026: they vary by season and diving centre. The range is wide because the location (shore or boat) and the length of the outing change. To compare centres: diving prices in Sharm.
Shore or boat: which to choose
The shore try dive takes place on the house reefs of Sharm's bays (Hadaba, Ras Umm Sid, Sharks Bay): you enter the water from the beach or a jetty, the depth grows gradually and it is the most relaxed choice for a first-ever experience. The boat try dive happens during a daily trip to the outer reefs: a more spectacular setting, but a longer day and a busier environment. If you are unsure, the advice is simple: absolute first time → shore; you have already done deep snorkelling and want the open sea → boat.
Who can do it (and who cannot)
Minimum age generally 10 years, good general health, and no flying within 12-18 hours after the dive. You do not need to be a competitive swimmer, but you do need to feel comfortable in the water. The medical questionnaire is filled in on site: with certain conditions (heart, asthma, pregnancy) the diving centre may require a certificate or decline the dive — that is protection, not fussiness.
After the try dive: the next steps
If you fall in love (it happens often, on these reefs), the natural next step is the PADI Open Water course: 3-4 days, €330-360, and you fly home certified. If you would rather stay on the surface, the snorkelling trips to Ras Mohammed and Tiran depart every day.
